The Coast Guard’s mission is to maintain both the safety and security while protecting the maritime environment and ensuring the continued flow of commerce which is vital to the Islands of Hawaii and American Samoa. Coast Guard Sector Honolulu executes 10 of the 11 Coast Guard missions throughout the region. One key function the Coast Guard provides is the Maritime Transportation System Recovery Unit (MTSRU). Through the MTSRU, Coast Guard partners with multiple federal, state and local agencies as well as private sector stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards and other concerns that may impact port safety and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions to port operations.
