Welcome to the Navy League’s official website for USS Hawaii.
The first commissioned submarine named for the State of Hawai‘i, USS Hawaii (SSN 776) is among the U.S. Navy’s newest and finest warships. USS Hawaii has a cutting-edge deck design, plus the most advanced armament and sonar capabilities, making her one of the world’s most technically sophisticated submarines. At the same time, USS Hawaii, like other ships of her class, has been designed for unparalleled cost-efficiency and longevity.
When USS Hawaii is commissioned on May 5, 2007, she will be a cornerstone of U.S. coastal and national defense for the 21st century, helping to ensure peace in the world’s waters.
The US Navy, the Navy League of the United States, and a group of over 400 family and friends awaited the arrival of the USS Hawaii at Sierra Pier # 9, this morning; an additional several hundred civilians watched her sail in from Ford Island due to space and security concerns. The Navy League sponsored a reception immediate after the arrival in Lockwood Hall aboard Pearl Harbor and presented a 5,000.00 check to the boat's MWR fund. Both the arrival and the reception went flawlessly much to the delight of the families and officials. If you would like to purchase a top quality commemorative USS Hawaii coin, please call the Navy League Office in Honolulu at 808-422-9404 and they will take your order and ship your coin. “It’s a great honor for our state to have this submarine named the Hawai`i. To all the members of the crew, I wish you all the best. You bring honor to our entire state. And I want to thank you for the privilege of being the sponsor, but I will hold that position as a representative of all the people in the state of Hawai`i.”
—Gov. Linda Lingle
“Since World War II, Hawai‘i…has had a significant portion of its men and women wear the uniform of the United States. The naming of USS Hawaii recognizes this rich legacy of Hawai‘i.”
—Sen. Daniel K. Inouye
